Heart Your Heart – A Plant Based Life

My name is Renae Long, I’m a wife and a mother of three boys. February 29th 2016 my husband Jerry suffered a heart attack. My husband worked out 5 mornings a week at our local YMCA. Up to that day I had gotten up and gone with him a grand total of 2 days this year. By the grace of God I arose at 5AM and went with him at 5:30 that day. We were able to quickly get from the Y, to the ER at the first sign of shortness of breath. He received an emergency cardiac catheterization at 6:20 and received two stents. His cardiologist told us he needed to change what he is eating, and in the past two weeks we have made some big changes. Our family already followed what we believed was a healthy diet, very little red meat, only olive oil, no processed foods, and no high fructose corn syrup. The cardiologist recommended two books “Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease” by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn and “The Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease Cookbook” by Ann and Jane Esselstyn . He also recommended my three sons know their cholesterol numbers, something we hadn’t even thought about. Following Dr. Esselstyns recommendations, our diet has been stripped of anything with a face or a mother. This means no meat of any kind, no oils of any kind, no dairy, no nuts, and no avocados. Making delicious meals is tough when your ingredients are limited. I’m learning and discovering new things as I try to keep our meals as appetizing as possible. Follow along as our family embarks on this healthy lifestyle.
